MJ Media have always been very active in our social responsibilities as an ethical obligation to benefit society and the welfare of those who are less fortunate than us. We hope that we have positively impacted on many lives with our involvement in organisations with whom we have chosen to support such as The Robin Hood Foundation, The KZN Rhino Watch and the Open Door Crises Centre.
The Robin Hood Foundation are phenomenal in what they do, they go over and beyond their call of duty and are so dedicated to their cause. We were truly moved when we visited some of the Granny and Grandpa’s at the Flame Lilly old age home to give them their Christmas goody bags. Most of these Grannies or Grandfathers may have food and a bed to sleep in but lots of them have families that live far away or just do not come and visit anymore so to see their eyes light up when a complete stranger gives them a hug and a gift is priceless.
We are currently putting together a “school package” which is a part of the “Out with the old in with the new” project. This charity drive is aimed at providing children with basic school supplies. Often our own kids have left over or reusable stationary or 2nd hand school uniforms which they have out-grown for example white shirts, socks, grey pants etc.
It is hard not to miss the urgent drive to get funds in for the protection of our Rhino and the response from every individual and company has been outstanding. With this in mind we also wanted to do something meaningful and instead of giving our clients corporate gifts, we took that money and donated it to the KZN Rhino Watch – what an amazing feeling!
The Open Door Crisis Care Centre has a special focus on women and children and sitting in at one of their fund raising events has often brought us to tears. Everyone at this organisation should be highly commended for the work that they do to restore the lives of so many traumatised women and children. It wasn’t much for us to sponsor two therapy boxes but these boxes are instrumental in the rehabilitation of children who have been abused or have a broken life.
Our involvement in these sponsorships may be relatively small however we know that we are part of a bigger impact and that’s what social responsibility is all about.
