Do you have warm childhood memories? I am sure many of us do but unfortunately some children are growing up under some very tough conditions owing to poverty and the prevalence of HIV/Aids.
Focus on iThemba together with their dedicated and passionate staff and proud sponsors are changing the lives of some of these less fortunate children and providing them with a “place of hope“. In 2003 a visionary leader Danie van den Heever, a retired Durban businessman, established a haven for hope near Hillcrest in KwaZula Natal and brought the organisation to life calling it Focus on iThemba, the isiZulu word for hope.
Focus on iThemba provide quality foster care for vulnerable children, each home is set up by two loving parents who foster up to six children providing a warm family life rooted by love and stability. The iThemba Academy is an innovative foundation phase school. This academy aims to nurture dynamic leaders by offering a world class education and to raise funds for bursaries and scholarships.
MJ Media are proud supporters of this remarkable organisation and recently attended a very inspirational breakfast at iThemba and were truly moved by what they are doing for these kids. Nadine Wright the Donor Relations Manager talked us through their vision, hopes and dreams for the organisation. The best part was getting to meet the iThemba kids during their lunch break – we were greeted with the biggest smiles and warm hugs and treated to a tour of their colourful and wonderful school and ended off with a few beautiful songs. This truly is a place of hope.
